Remembering the Fallen (And What is Memorial Day?)

Every year, on the last weekend in May, we take a day off (if we are working). We travel perhaps, take a picnic, invite family over and in general welcome the beginning of summer.  We may even watch the memorial concert near the Capitol in Washington D.C. or some other event.  In my case, in addition to all of the above, I am washing everything I own (because the down side of traveling in a car with all your clothes so no laundry is needed is ending up with nothing to wear).

Hopefully somehow, in all of these celebrations, we remember the fallen. Because that's what it's all about.

I hope you all have a lovely Memorial Day weekend, as we prepare to celebrate on this sunny Sunday as opposed to the rainy Monday. May good food, family, and fun prevail. And please, take at least a couple minutes this weekend to remember all who have lost their lives.

And while no Veteran will ever turn down grateful thanks, for the un-initiated follks reading, remember this single rule: Memorial day is for those who served and defended this country and are no longer with us.  Veterans day is that day when we thank the soldiers amongst us, active or retired.

Happy weekend, everyone!!
